This
is a folk dance that derives its dance movements
from an activity in a village life, which in this
case, is the process that leads to silk weaving.
It is a very old dance, Originally, it was, and
still is, a barehanded martial dance for men in
the same dance sequence as the Sword Dance. The
moment are rough, fast and jerky.
Around
1957, Mrs. Buariao Ratana-maniporn(nee Supavasith),
under her father's guidance, dance it herself.
The feminine version of the dance emphasized continuous,
flowing movements, which are the most suiting
motion for preventing silk threads from getting
entangled. In 1964, Mrs. Ploysri Sappasri, a former
court dancer of the last Prince of Chiangmai,
helped Mrs. Buario polish the dancer. Later, in
1977, the Chiangmai Dramatic Art Collage's team
of instructors choreographed thier version of
the dance. The dance here was put together from
the more beatiful dance movements of the two versions.
