 The
dance is a small part of an ancient tragic opera.
The story was first set into poetry by either
an Ayuttaya king or crown prince about 500 years
ago. It is belived to be based on a true story
about two feuding principalities. In northern
Lampang Province and northern Prae Province between
1086-1150 A.D. There have been several versious
of the opera since then. Chao Dararasmi of chiangmai
(1873-1933), consort of King Chulalongkorn,Rama
V (r.1868-1910), choregraphed the dance in 1909
from the vision of the King's brother. (Chao is
a title for the now -dafunct Northern Thai royalty
